CLIPS allows both student(s) and their teacher to create audio and video recordings to share and collaborate with. Create multi-layered recordings, perform virtual duets or record lesson content and practice material - both in and outside of the lesson room.
How to Create a CLIP:
To create a CLIP in or outside of a lesson you will need to navigate to the CLIPS Tab. In the top right hand corner there will be a ‘+ new’ button. In a lesson, this will automatically create a CLIP shared to the participants in a lesson. Outside a lesson, ensure you’ve selected the student(s) you would like to share the CLIP with. However, you can always go back and share with any additional students as needed. After selecting ‘+new’, you will be prompted to decide whether the CLIP will be a public or private composition. These are the two different kinds of CLIPS, Public and Private Compositions.
It is important to note that once a CLIP is set to Public or Private it cannot be changed.
- Private Composition: A private composition will keep any recordings the student adds to the composition private and only visible to the teacher and that student. It will also allow you to filter through each student’s recordings to see their individual work.
This type of CLIP is best for private 1:1 lessons so it allows you to re-use the same CLIP for multiple students.
- Public Composition: A public composition allows for group collaboration and all student recordings added would be visible to all students that the CLIP has been shared with in addition to the teacher.
This type of CLIP is best used for Group ensembles, class projects, orchestral performances or recitals.
Once you’ve decided on a public or private CLIP, you can begin recording or directly upload a file(s). If you decide to record your CLIP in Muzie.Live, we typically recommend wearing headphones if you have them on hand.
Another setting available for a CLIP is to lock/unlock. This Lock can be adjusted throughout the life of the CLIP, but it will impact how the CLIP works in a lesson or assignment. As a default, all CLIPS are unlocked.
- Lock: The Global Lock sets the composition to view only for the student(s) the CLIP is shared with. This will allow only the teacher to add recordings if they wish, while the student is still able to watch their teacher’s recording.
This lock can be helpful in situations where a Group Ensemble is completed and no more edits need to be made or for CLIPS that are not meant to be collaborative like instructions or CLIPS of a lesson.
CLIPS in a Lesson: You can use CLIPS in tandem with full lesson recordings (see here for more information on lesson recordings). In a lesson, teachers can record an important section of their lesson to include in their student’s assignments. In both 1:1, Group classes and recital rooms, teachers can perform virtual duets with their student(s) in real time by allowing each student to record their part. CLIPS will automatically layer the recordings together.
CLIPS in an Assignment: CLIP in an Assignment allows students to collaborate with your recording just like in a lesson. Public/Private & lock settings will impact how a student is able to interact with the CLIP in an assignment. Here are just a few examples of how you can utilize a CLIP in an assignment.
- The teacher can share a CLIP for their student(s) to play along with while they are practicing.
- The teacher can share a CLIP of instructions or a how-to for their student(s) to better understand the material.
- The teacher can ask their student(s) to upload a CLIP of their playing/practicing as a part of completing their assignment.
- The teacher can upload a CLIP in an assignment to create a collaboration (multi-layered recording) where the student(s) can upload a CLIP to layer on top of the teachers- creating a Virtual Duet.

CLIPS for Creating Studio Content: Outside of the lesson, CLIPS is available to build out your own content for explaining lesson material or How To’s to supplement your student’s assignments. You can also build out a library of backing tracks and play-a-longs for your students. If you already have a library built out of your own recordings, easily upload them into Muzie.Live!
We recommend taking a look at our Virtual Help Guide below of the Muzie.Live CLIPS. If you need any additional assistance, please use the help chat to send a message to our team.
